Job Summary

The main role of a Personnel Security Specialist I is to assist the DOJ with security clearance processing and background investigations. 


The purpose of this position is to make sure that only those individuals who are completely loyal and have strong character get access to federal systems and facilities. In this job, you have to handle sensitive data and background investigation reports with great care.

Key Responsibilities

Background Investigation Support: Control, log, and track the status of security-related reports, and review their adequacy.

Security Processing: Provide technical assistance in LiveScan fingerprint scanning and initiating background investigations.

Database Management: Enter accurate information into the JSTARS database, upload documents, and ensure records are protected.

System Operations: Review security forms using OPM’s eQIP system, and submit them to the database.

Investigative Checks: Complete key steps like FBI name checks, credit checks, and NCIC checks.

Safeguarding Information: Follow strict protocols to protect Privacy Act and Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

Requirements: Qualifications & Experience

Experience: At least 2 years of verifiable experience working in personnel security at a federal agency or a federal contracting company.

Technical Proficiency: Minimum 2 years of experience in data entry and reviewing within the eQIP system.

System Knowledge: Preference will be given to candidates with one year of experience using the JSTARS (Justice Security Tracking and Adjudication Record System).

Attention to Detail: Ability to review complex documents and identify inconsistencies.
