Job Summary


The main goal of this role is to support Carbon180’s mission through congressional and administrative outreach. 


You’ll work with the policy team and other groups (like communications and science) to track legislative policies and hearings. 


Your job is to build stakeholder relationships, manage databases, and coordinate congressional events. This role is for people living in the Washington, DC metro area who want to drive change through public policy.


Key Responsibilities


Build and maintain strong relationships with congressional offices and partner organizations.


Keep a close watch on legislative policies, hearings, and news related to agriculture and forestry.


Support the Director of Government Affairs with strategic planning and help coordinate team projects.


Keep CRM databases updated to ensure accurate records of congressional meetings and project progress.


Represent Carbon180 at both in-person and virtual events.


Break down complex scientific and policy information into clear language and present recommendations.


Experience & Qualifications


Experience: 3 to 5 years working in federal, NGO, or public policy.


Knowledge: A solid understanding of climate, energy, and environment advocacy (with a preference for those interested in Agriculture and Forestry).


Legislative Understanding: You need to know about appropriations, authorizations, the Farm Bill, and other legislative vehicles.


Education: A degree in Public Policy, Environmental Science, or a related field.


Commitment: A proven dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEIBJ) principles and practice.


Skills


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to easily connect with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability to work through uncertainty and find new solutions quickly.
  • Strong decision-making using data and personal experience.
  • Attention to detail and the habit of meeting tough deadlines.


Salary & Location


Location: Washington, DC (You must live in the metro area).


Salary: Starting from $121,959 to $130,993 (with potential up to $158,059).


Work Week: Only 36 hours (every Friday off after 1 pm).


Benefits: 100% paid medical/dental insurance and 4 weeks of PTO (Paid Time Off).
