Job Summary


In this role, you'll be part of an engineering team made up of Frontend, Backend, and SRE experts. Your main job is to build scalable and secure backend systems for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.

Key Responsibilities


Lead large-scale backend projects for Remote’s HR and Payroll products.


Design robust APIs and integrations using Elixir and Phoenix.


Participate in code reviews and mentor other engineers.


Integrate agentic workflows and automation loops to boost work speed.


Maintain scalable systems on Postgres database and AWS infrastructure.


Provide feedback on product features and suggest solid technical solutions.


Contribute to the shared codebase and debug technical issues.



Experience & Qualifications


Fundamentals: Strong grasp of engineering basics and experience running production systems.


Automation: Hands-on experience designing automation workflows (knowing agentic workflows is a big plus).


Databases: Experience working with Postgres or similar databases.


CI/CD: Skilled in using tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.


Education: Relevant degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.


Skills


  • Must Have: Systems thinking, ability to define clear specs, focus on quality.
  • Nice to Have: Knowledge of functional programming languages (Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Haskell).
  • Cloud & DevOps: Understanding of AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, and React/Next.js.
  • Problem Solving: Strong ability to solve business and technical problems.



Salary & Location


Salary: $53,300 to $119,850 USD annually (depends on your location and experience).


Location: 100% Remote (work from anywhere in the world).
